Cut Free
My life could be called a shambles? Generations of pain through and through My path concealed by brambles I turn my eyes to You You clear one step before me Cut through thorns and weeds I am not unwounded But along with me you bleed You send the rain to help me cry As if to say "I'm here" My heart is touched, with wings I fly My path becoming clear. One step is all that's clear to take One step so it will be A beautiful life with You I'll make A life that's finally cut free
On Tantrums (in children and adults)
Lessons Learned from Parenthood
It was the perfect storm of circumstances that can lead to toddler MegaTantrum -- parents, you know what I mean. Due to my poor planning my 2 year old ended up both Hungry and Tired. And she came unglued. She was too tired to eat and too hungry to sleep. Lost in her (very vocal and dramatic) misery, she kept refusing my offers of the 2 things that'd actually help her feel better ... food and rest. If you've been around toddlers much this probably sounds familiar. But I think it sounds familiar in other ways too -- how often,...
Don't look at the truck!
Lessons Learned from Parenthood
As I contemplate trying to teach my 4 year old how to ride a bike this summer (no small feat considering I am not particularly inspired to ride one myself), I started thinking back to bike lessons from my Dad about 30 years ago. I remember wobbling along on my training wheels, headed straight for a parked truck, and my Dad shouting behind me "Don't look at the truck!! Look at the road, where you want to go!" I still remember noticing my reflection in the chrome bumper a moment before impact. The subsequent goose egg might explain a few...
Unopened Snacks
Lessons Learned from Parenthood
I find I learn alot about humanity and God by being a Mom. Aha moment #4782 (roughly): My 19 month old daughter Isla busted into the pantry and managed to nab one of her favourite snacks. I saw what she had done and decided she could have the snack, but when I tried to take it from her to open it on her behalf, she wouldn't let go. So there she was, holding on to a delicious snack that she couldn't enjoy, because she couldn't open it without my help. She was terrified to let it go, incase my plan...
Everything bite-sized
Lessons Learned from Parenthood
As a mom of really young ones, everything is bite-sized. Pancakes cut into little bites. Grapes quartered. I don't tell my girls what we are doing next week or often even tomorrow because they can't tell time and just get confused. For awhile I marked festivals and other fun things down on a calendar, and my almost-4-year-old thought she could make them come quicker by crossing off a whole bunch of days all at once LOL. She'd try to rush the good stuff. If she heard about bad stuff like dentist appointments too far in advance, she'd live in a...
