I find I learn alot about humanity and God by being a Mom. Aha moment #4782 (roughly):
My 19 month old daughter Isla busted into the pantry and managed to nab one of her favourite snacks. I saw what she had done and decided she could have the snack, but when I tried to take it from her to open it on her behalf, she wouldn't let go.
So there she was, holding on to a delicious snack that she couldn't enjoy, because she couldn't open it without my help. She was terrified to let it go, incase my plan was different than hers and I'd take it away.
Later that day it dawned on me, that we are like that with God. We discover blessings in our lives, and often in order to really enjoy their potential, we need to relinquish control and give them to God. But we don't want to, in case his plan is different than our own and He might do something we don't like or understand. So we cling tightly to our unopened snack LOL just like my daughter Isla.
One thing I know for sure is, if Isla gave me her snack, and I put it away for another time ... it'd be because I love her and would have something better in mind. Just like God does for us. Or maybe by giving it up, she'd get to really enjoy it. Clinging to unopened snacks makes no sense at all .. the only way forward is to trust.
What unopened snacks are you hanging on to?
